Chitarra – Trio of Musicians

Can a trio of acoustic Guitar, Cello and Violin produce the sounds of a wedding band? Produced by Cagen Music of Chicago, ‘Chitarra’ – is an innovative kind of music with just three players who can play hip modern songs to traditional classical music.

Recently I had the pleasure of listening to such music at the Modern Luxury Wedding’s event. Modern Luxury is a resource guide to luxury weddings. The hosts, Editor-in-Chief Sarah Ryan and Group Publisher Amy Allen wanted to celebrate the Fall/Winter edition of their magazine. Held at the Conrad hotel, the Modern Luxury Weddings event showcased various luxury wedding reception ideas and inspiration.

Wedding Reception Inspiration

It started with a display by ‘Northern Event Décor’ while sipping Champagne and listening to some Awesome ‘Chitarra’ music.

We also got to sip some Rose at the Waldorf Astoria Rose station and participate in a wedding related Party Photo Booth amidst Northern Event Décor’s Terrace Stylings.

The Grand finale was going to the rooftop restaurant called ‘Noyane’ where we tasted a delicious wedding cake, sipped some specialty cocktails and enjoyed gorgeous city views. The luxury and relaxed ambiance of this event would make any bride want to have her wedding reception modeled after this.

Wedding Reception- Must Read New Trends

Wedding Reception- Must Read New Trends

Wedding reception styles have changed over the years and couples are looking for creative ways to wow their guests. wedding reception. Here are four new trends for 2017.

  • The couples seating & décor have become more plush and royal. Luxury rental companies offer vintage velvet love seats to mid-century lounges etc. You can have a beautiful decorated umbrella or a chandelier hanging above you.

  • You can enter the venue in style with a red carpet and a live band playing some romantic tunes serenading you.

  • You can delight your guests even before they are seated with consumable place cards. You can place champagne flutes with each guest’s name and table number placed on the rim. Or place personal loaves of bread at each place setting with their names attached to it.

  • You can make your reception unique and personal with some decorations that bring out your personality. If you are an art lover, put some of your favorite art around the room. Or invite an artist and have him/her paint a picture of your reception. You could also have a collage of all your pictures and display it along with a story of when and how you two met.

Newly engaged? The First five things to do!

Congratulations!  Now that the question has been popped, what can you do to get started with your wedding planning? Here are five tips for newly engaged couples.

  • Start making a wedding budget. Figure out what kind of a wedding you want, what are the various costs that you need to consider, talk to some of the vendors and find out how much they charge. Then look into your finances and figure out how much you can spend, talk to your family and see if they are willing to contribute to the wedding too. A wedding budget worksheet will help you get started.
  • Set a wedding date. Even if you are not sure of the exact date, setting a date for now helps you look for venues and other vendors to find out their availability.
  • Figure out what kind of wedding you want to have. Look at wedding inspirations and themes on Pinterest and Instagram to get some ideas. Also look online for wedding ideas. The kind of wedding you want will determine your budget and vendors you need to book.
  • Book some of the main vendors who are hard to get. See their availability and that will help you set your actual wedding date.
  • Start building your guest list. Determine how many guests you can invite based on your budget and narrow down the list to fit in as many of your close friends and family. You can also look into registry ideas for your wedding.

Add a Punch to your Wedding Reception Cocktail Hours

Add a Punch to your Wedding Reception Cocktail Hours

Wedding Reception Cocktail hours can be 1-2 hours before the actual dinner. This is a great time for guests to relax and mingle with others and enjoy the special time with friends and family. But there is a fine line between providing delicious hors d’oeuvres and drinks vs overwhelming them with too many items. You don’t want to have yours guests hungry and at the same time have too much food.

So, what is the right number of appetizers and drinks to offer to your guests? We have a few suggestions for you.

  • 2-4 pieces per person, 30-60 minutes before dinner, cocktail hour.
  • 5-6 pieces per person, 1.5-2 hours preceding dinner time.

Keep the beer and wine flowing, but when it comes to making a real “just married” statement, it’s all about the signature cocktail. For cocktails, usually 1-2 signature cocktails specially prepared for the wedding couple in their honor will add class.

Here are a few ideas for a Wedding Reception Signature Cocktail:

Blueberry Mojito:  This twist on a classic mojito is fruity from fresh blueberries and just as refreshing as the minty classic.

St. Germain: This cocktail, made with lime, white cranberry juice and vodka will be a hit.

Rose Petal Infusion: Getting married in the spring or summer? Infuse your champagne with rose petals by adding a few petals to each flute.

Pineapple Rum Tea Punch:  Go punch bowl style at your wedding with this tropical concoction, served in pretty glass tea cups.

Pineapple-Rum-Tea Punch

Ingredients
4 cups cubed fresh pineapple
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
2 cups water
4 regular-size green tea bags (such as Tazo All Natural Zen Green Tea)
1 (20-oz.) bottle lemon-lime soft drink, chilled
1 cup light rum
2 cups pineapple sherbet

Preparation
Process pineapple, sugar, and lime juice in a blender or food processor 30 seconds or until smooth, stopping to scrape down sides as needed. Pour through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a large pitcher, pressing to release juices. Discard solids. Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Remove from heat, and add tea bags. Cover and steep 7 minutes. Discard tea bags. Stir tea into pineapple mixture; cover and chill 4 to 6 hours. Gently stir chilled lemon-lime soft drink and rum into pineapple mixture just before serving. Place pineapple sherbet in a punch bowl or individual glasses. Pour pineapple mixture over sherbet. Serve immediately.

You can make your wedding even more special by having a special wine or beer brewed ahead of time in honor of your wedding that you can serve during cocktail hour. Let guests sample it and then offer them each a bottle to take home at the end of the night, complete with a customized label.

Congratulations!

Make your wedding unique in every way!

Buying art for your home

Buying art for your home

Buying art – the whole process – is daunting for many people. Being swamped with too many choices at once can be overwhelming and it limits your ability to make the right decision.

Here are some tips to guide you and help you make a good choice.

Look at the room size and determine if the wall where you want to put your art up is big or small in proportion to the whole room. Will a big painting look bold and stand out but not look overwhelming in comparison or a smaller sized painting may add a touch of elegance and color to brighten the area.

Choose a slightly contrasting color for your art if your furniture is monochromatic. Adding color on the wall will freshen up any room and make it more inviting.

Determine if the room is tradition or modern and if it is traditional, then you may want to select a representational painting vs an abstract one. An abstract painting will go well with more modern and contemporary rooms.

Be bold and daring and don’t be afraid to experiment. Imagine how the art will look on your wall and go with your gut feeling.

Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth’s Wedding Registry

Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth’s Wedding Registry

I recently read an article about Joy Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth getting engaged. To those of you who don’t know who Joy Anna Duggar is – she is part of the Duggar family TV show 19 kids and counting.

They got engaged in March and I heard about their wedding registry being set up. Some of the items in the registry – such as power tools, tents and gift certificates, made me think that art is a particularly memorable and unique gift for celebrity couples. Art is unique and something they would cherish forever unlike kitchen items and camping gear.

I would love to invite Joy Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth to open a wedding registry with Mishkalo which will be launching soon.

This inspired our design of the sample wedding couple page. Here is some latest news about the couple:
