A lion and lioness walk through long grasses together in the African bush. This painting was based on a field sketch I created in Botswana. When I returned home to my studio I decided to turn it into a larger painting. I painted the lions first, using washes of color to highlight the lion’s mane, then I added the long grasses on top. The square format of the painting works nicely with the vertical grasses and horizontal backs of the lions.
