Description
Convergence by Alice Vander Vennen. Media: Mixed Media.
Convergence evokes the swiftness of a song on the water, as the canoe shape speaks of movement, history and an aesthetic that reaches as far back as humankind. It’s a connection to generations throughout the ages that have created and worked with this primal shape ‚Äî a convergence. The multiple materials ‚Äî the textiles, branches, wire, copper, and the keys from a beloved old piano ‚Äî create an assemblage as part of a visual language. Creating with all the different textiles allows the histories to be woven together, suggesting a new story. The narrative speaks of gathering the work of divergent cultures, histories and generations, moving together through time.Textiles (new, archival, found, hand-stitched), copper, copper wire, piano parts, branch, stone and found objects.
